A bivvy bag is a sleeping bag outer that protects from wind and light rain, as well as from dust and dirt, bugs, slugs, and crawlies.
Unlike a tent, this thing actually gets you out in nature – with nothing blocking you from the starry-night skies. Not neon orange, it won’t flap in bonkers breeze. COMPANION, is a natural shell, a cosy cocoon that nests you in nature.

Our bivvy bags are roomy and inclusive of those who like to roll around.
Our human bivvy bags are 6’6” and wide enough to stuff with a plush sleeping bag, a 3” deep mat or pad, plus a proper pillow – yay. They pack smaller and lighter than an average beach towel (<1kg | 2.2lb). Totally backpack’able, perfectly good for a 2-3 day thru-hike (we have done 10+). So while we might not be considered for the ultra-light cult, the experience of a Companion bivvy bag is like no other – so we’re good in a camp of our own.
Our doggy bivvy bags fit proper dogs (upto approx. 30kg | 65lb – large Labrador size), yet pack smaller and lighter than a t-shirt (400g | 0.9lb).
Our bivvy bags are not 100% waterproof, they never claim to be. They are engineered to protect from wind and light rain. If it’s slamming it down, get a room.
No synthetic bivvy bag, whatever the brand, is 100% waterproof (whatever they try to sell you on). We are not here to blame or shame, but we do know that no matter what material you choose, you won’t be rain-storm exempt. So, might as well go natural.
When we sleep, our bodies breathe. This creates condensation, a type of humidity. A bivvy bag's ability to wick this moisture away determines how comfortable we are. Synthetic bags struggle with this, meaning you wake up wetter overall (have you noticed how a "waterproof" jacket gets sticky inside when rained on?). COMPANION is the fine line between wicking outwards and not drawing in.
In terms of the environmental impact of “waterproof”, Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coatings popular on almost all modern outdoor gear (bivvy bags, tents, waterproof jackets, etc.) contain harmful chemicals that release into the environment during manufacturing, a lifetime of use, and disposal – leading to widespread contamination that cannot be contained. “Waterproof” products effectively never break down.

Organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides or GMOs, and is certified by strict standards like GOTS. We use British-made 100% organic cotton on all of our human bivvy bags.
BCI cotton (Better Cotton Initiative) is a larger-scale, more accessible alternative that focuses on full-loop farming, improving conventional methods by training farmers to reduce water and chemical usage. We use BCI cotton on all of our Spring 2026 accessories.

You take good care of your bivvy, and it will take good care of you.
Spot clean – gently dab the grubby area with a clean cloth doused in something natural, eg. fresh water or a drop of bio soap, diluted.
Air & store dry – natural fibres decay, but only if they’re damp. If you store your bivvy bag totally dry it will last for decades. Hang it somewhere breezy, not in direct sunshine.
Re-proof as needed – naturally through wear, our fully biodegradable wax fades from the fabric. Lots of options for reproofing, the same as you would any other garment.
